Tri-Hi-Y and Hi-Y district officers are Bob ALLEN, treasurer, Mount Ayr; Roland TRAUSON, second vice-president, Bedford;
Dale LICHEN, first vice-president, Red Oak; Steve ARENT, president, Harlan; Bonnie MILLER, chaplain, Mount Ayr, and
Jim WATSON, member of national Hi-Y congress, Fairfield. The local organization was represented by 12 members and the two
sponsors at the Leadership Training Conference at Camp Foster, East Okoboji September 16 and 17.
Sunday morningchapel services were led by Bonnie MILLER and Joe BROWN, local Hi-Y chaplain.
Funeral services for county engineer Milo A. RUBEK were held Sunday afternoon from the First Christian Church, conducted by
the Rev. Howard O. WAKELIN, pastor of the church. Mr. RUBEK died suddenly Friday morning after suffering a heart attack in
the Ringgold County Hospital, where he had been a patient since Monday, at the age of 56 years.
Ringgold county 4-H girls made a fine showing with their home economics exhibits at the Interstate Show last week in Saint
Joseph, MO. They won 16 blue, 12 red and five white ribbons. Blue ribbon winners were Jennie LEONARD, Carol CHICKEN, Myrna
JARRED, Lynda MAIN, Margaret MOSIER (2), Mary Sue BASTOW (2), Shirley GOINS, Kay SAVILLE, Connie MAIN, Marie EURITT, Jane
SISSEL, Nancy WEEDA, Quita LININGER and Rosetta HAILEY. Shirley GOINS was selected as the Interstate 4-H Girl of the
Year Wednesday evening of last week in Saint Joseph, MO. Miss GOINS reigned over the Spotlight Show, a highlight of the
Saint Joseph Interstate 4-H Livestock and Home Economics Show and was the recipient of a $100 bond and a bouquet of roses.
Miss GOINS, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd GOINS of Diagonal, is a sophomore at Iowa State University in Ames. She has
been a member of the Jolly Jinglers 4-H Club for nine years, and her leader, Mrs. George VICKER, and Mrs. GOINS were
present to see her receive the award.
George VANCE has purchased what is known as the Levi TERWILLIGER 40-acre farm for $140 per acre.
The organization of a Ringgold county sheriff's posse is being considered, according to an announcement by sheriff Elbert
STRANGE.
Paul EASON of Washington township was re-elected chairman of the Ringgold county ASC committee during a convention of
delegates of the community committee. Also re-elected were Lawrence SWANK, Athens township, vice-chairman and Marshall
BARKER of Poe township, third member of the county committee.
