Eight Ringgold county teachers were presented certificates of recognition for 30 or more years of service to education at the annual spring dinner meeting of the Ringgold County Education Association held April 18. Those honored were R. E. HAUPTMANN, Mrs. Hazel LESAN, Bernice LEKMKUHL and Raymond E. BYERS, Mount Ayr Community school district; Mrs. Ruth FLAGGARD and Mrs. Rosalia FISK, Grand Valley Community school district; Mrs. Lela STEPHENS, Diagonal Community School; and Vera F. DICKENS, Ringgold county superintendent of schools.

Seven teachers in the Mount Ayr Community school district have tendered their resignations to the board of education. They are Maurice ARNDE, Carl FENN, Mrs. Grace JORGENSON, Mrs. Evelyn BUELL, Mrs. Cleo PRITCHARD, Mrs. Irolene ROBERTS, and Mrs. Jessie TRULLINGER.

Mrs. Maurice CARR of this city has been contracted by the board of education of Mount Ayr Community schools to teach ninth grade English in the local school beginning with the fall term of 1960.

Coach Chet ROED will take his two weightmen, Gary WION and Jerry JOBE, Saturday to the Drake Relays in Des Moines, where they will compete inthe discuss event of the high school section. Drake Relays entries are a select group of athletes, which has qualified for the event through efforts expended prior to the relays. WION, who has consistently thrown the platter over the 145-foot mark, and JOBE, who has had marks between 135 and 138-feet, were selected on the basis of their performances in past meets.

Irvin BISEHOFF of Des Moines, formerly of Tingley, won the individual title in the 29th annual Iowa State Cribbage Tournament held Sunday in the Coliseum in Marshalltown. Among the second through the fifth places in the team standing was the Tingley-Afton team.

  • April 22, a son to Mr. & Mrs. Gailen HAGER of Hopkins MO
  • April 25, a son to Mr. & Mrs. Bob SICKELS of Mount Ayr
  • April 26, a daughter to Dr. & Mrs. Roy E. FELL of Mount Ayr
