Mount Ayr Community school board voted to approve the sharing contract offered by the Clearfield school board. The
contract would allow Clearfield students to choose to attend the Mount Ayr Community school district for their high
school education. Under the plan, students who have completed eighth grade can choose this summer to attend high school
in the MAC district. The decision made for the coming year is binding for the rest of the student's high school education.
Two visitors from Australia took a tour of the Ringgold County Hospital Tuesday as a part of a visit with the Jim JOBE
family in Tingley. Joanne TAYLOR and Kylie OLSON, both of Sydney, Australia, are nurses there. Kylie OLSON was the
exchange sister of Denise JOBE when she traveled to Australia on an exchange program in 1979.
Lightning played havoc with computers being used around Mount Ayr's square Thursday afternoon, June 18. Not only that but
an official 12.16 inches of rain was dumped in a short period of time, with unofficial reports getting up to three to
three and one-half inches. Minor problems with telephone service also were reported by Contel staff. When lightning
burned out a central box on the computer system used at Hawkeye Bank & Trust in Mount Ayr about 2:30 p.m. Thursday,
"old system" machines had to be brought out.
After being the christening gown for 84 children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the late Anna MEYER, the
"hand-me-down" is still considered special and is being worn with pride by family members. One of the most recent babies
to wear the gown was Hans Grant LARSON, son of John and Diana LARSON of Mount Ayr. He was christened by the Rev. Father
John ZEITLER at a May 17 ceremony held at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Mount Ayr. Godparents for Hans were Diana's
sister, Clara Rose FREDERICK, and husband Karl.
First baby born after Father's Day at Ringgold County Hospital each year receives a beef certificate presented by the
Ringgold County Cattle Women. The certificate this year went to Mr. and Mrs. Roland JACKSON of Ellston, whose new
daughter, Arianna Marie, was born at 5:17 p.m. Sunday, June 21, right on Father's Day. Ringgold County Beef Queen Kris
RICHARDS made the presentation to the JACKSONS at the hospital Monday afternoon.
Two Ringgold county girls qualified for the national high school rodeo finals in Pueblo, CO following taking top placings
in the state high school rodeo competition. Shelly TAYLOR of Mount Ayr was named the Iowa High School Rodeo Association
champion barrel racer for the second year in a row. Her sister, Jill TAYLOR, was named the reserve champion Iowa High
School Rodeo Association pole bender following this year's competition.
