Wanda JETER, Ringgold county spelling champion, and her teacher, Hazel BURGHER, went Friday evening to Des Moines, where Wanda entered the state
spelling contest. Vera F. DICKENS, county superintendent of schools, as unable to attend the contest this year.
During the final meeting of the Parent-Teacher Association, officers were elected for the 1940-1941 school year as follows: Howard PIPER, president;
Mrs. J. M. ANDERSON, vice-president; and Dorothy LANE, secetary-treasurer. The nominating committee was composed of the Mesdames W. B. CUNNING, Grant
L. HAYES and Floyd I BEAMAN.
Myrtle HANCOCK, who has taught in the Bedford school system for the last four years, has been elected junior high English instructor in the Mount
Ayr schools. Miss HANCOCK will take the place of Julia LAMB, who succeeds Mrs. Georgia CONANT as high school English instructor and head of the journalism
department. Mrs. CONANT was reelected to the position, but had announced other plans.
The grand opening of a new Gambles store, owned and operated by Frailey & Son is announced in this issue. The FRAILEYS recently purchased the store from
Bud BROWN.
Sada DOWLING received word last week of the marriage of her niece, Mari DOWLING, and Raymond P. STAGGS, which took place in Marengo.
ROSENBAUM'S Phillips "66" oil station and lunchroom on Highway 3, at Mount Ayr, will be formally opened to the public on April 27.
HICKORY GROVE -
Darlene JAMES and Duane ADKINS were united in marriage April 13.
BIRTHS
DIAGONAL - Mr. and Mrs. Johnny COVERDELL are the proud parents of an eight-pound son, James Albert, born April 16.
