A new 350-acre lake near Mount Ayr was part of the East Fork Grand River watershed draft plan reviewed March 9 at a
public meeting in the Ringgold county courthouse. The watershed project begins near Arispe and continues south into
Missouri to the Worth and Gentry county line, near Denver, MO. The lake would be located two miles east and 1 1/4 miles
north of Mount Ayr.
The Maloy city council voted to begin the process to disincorporate the city after discussion at their regular meeting
March 11. The decision comes after questions have been brought up about past expenses of the council for legal fees
and other questions, raising controversy.
A fish that you need a tractor to pull out of pond is quite a fish story, and a 46-pound grass carp that Mark TRIGGS
was showing around the community Tuesday is quite a trophy. The fish was not caught but was among more than 100 fish
killed this winter in farm ponds.
A reception and dance is planned at Sun Valley Country Club in Ellston, honoring Ivan and Lois RAINEY on the
occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary April 3.
Two Ringgold county employees were honored for long-time service at a March 11 spring workshop for members of the Iowa
State Association of Counties. Vaughn CLARK was presented a certificate of appreciation for his 25 years of service as
a county engineer. Donna RICHARDS, Ringgold county deputy treasurer, received a 20-year award.
Three MACHS students will take speech entries to the state individual speech contest in Des Moines Saturday. Jason
MERCER will have entries in poetry reading and humorous acting. Elisa JONES will have a poetry reading entry and
Todd DERSCHEID will have a prose reading entry.
MACHS junior, Jody DENNEY, is working to finance a track trip to China and other places in the Orient in June. She will
be part of a grup of 40 or more high school-age young men and women and at least four coaches from Nebraska and Iowa
who will be involved in a Nebraska USA Track and Field-sponsored trip.
Winners were named when the Ringgold Optimist Club held its annual Tri-Star basketball competition Saturday morning.
Winners included: BreAnne WEEDA, BayLee STULL, Shannon McKERN, Wes ALLEN, Tiffany HUNT, Brandon YODER, Melissa WINKLER,
Ryan ROE, Nida STILL, Jeremy BURMEISTER, Kristen McKERN and Brandon GREENE.
