At the close of the emblem sale held Saturday in teh interest of the Iowa Children's Home Society, Glenn Roach won first prize; Jean Thompson was second; and, Marilyn Martin placed third.

The grand opening of Helen Variety's Store was held Friday and Saturday. Mrs. Dave Long is the proprietor.

Robert Skinner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Skinner, went yesterday to Des Moines, where he has secured a position in one of the Bolton and Hay chain restaurants. He was formerly employed at Todd's Hardware.

Rayond Drake, Jr. began work Monday in the United Grocery Store in Mount Ayr.

Loren Goldner, who had been employed at the Pioneer Seed Corn Company in Coon Rapids, left Wednesday for Washington, D.C., where he was secured a civil service position in the Department of
the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

ELLSTON - Keith Foster left Sunday from Omaha for Chicago, IL., where he will work for the United Air Lines as a radio operator.

REDDING - Iris Culbertson went Saturday to Des Moines, where she enrolled in the Iowa Beauty School.

STUDENT AYR - The sixth grade has established a newspaper named "Hi Lights."

BIRTHS:
MOUNTAIN BRUSH - Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Minnick are the proud parents of a baby boy, born October 11. He weighed seven pounds and will answer to the name of Larry Eugene.
Mr.and Mrs. Ralph Harris, of Kellerton, are the parents of a baby girl, Janet Kay, born October 4. Weight, seven pounds.
Dr. and Mrs. Gerald Downie, of Tenping, Fukein, China, announce the arrival of a daughter, Joyce Maurine, on August. 9. She weighed eight and three-quarters pounds and is welcomed by two sisters,
Emma Jean and Myra Mae.
DIAGONAL - Mr. and Mrs. Roy Graham are the parents of a son, bon October 12. He weighed seven and one-half pounds.
