According to the Des Moines Register under [the] date of May 8, Jane Timby has selected by a group of Des Moines businessmen as the "Ideal Secretary." Miss Timby, daughter of W. T. Timby, of this city, has served for three years as [a] secretary for the Bankers Life Company in Des Moines. As winner of a contest open to all Des Moines stenographers, Miss Timby reigned over the stenographer's ball held May 8, in the Tromar Ballroom. Transcriber's Note: The Tromar Ballroom was located in downtown Des Moines on the corner of 5th and Park. KIOA's radio studios were housed in the Tromar Ballroom during the 1940's.

The voters of the Independent School District of Knowlton voted unanimously Saturday in favor of the proposal to issue bonds in the sum of $1,200 for the purpose of constructing and equipping a school building to replace the present structure. The vote was 25 - 0.

One hundred and sixty-three students will be graduated this month from the ten town high schools of the county, an increase of 20 over last year.

The class of Maloy is double that of last year. It is easy to account for that fact, since there were only three in the class of 1940, but this year's class is different for another reason - all six members are boys, Burl Mobley, Clarence Culver, Billy Wyman, Duane Webb, Max Haidsiak and James Sheil.

George L. Jackson began work Monday at the Mount Ayr Clearners and Clothiers. George was employed last summer in Horne's Rexall Store and for the last several months had been employed at Liggett's Drug Store in Des Moines.

Commencement exercises for the eighth grade will be held May 11. The processional will be played by Helen Hetzel and Bob Wilson. Helen Hetzel will review the history of the class from its first year; the class history will be read by Loyd Hudson; Bob Wilson will present the class poem and play a piano solo and the class will sing three songs.

Wayne Vanderpluym, who lives north of town, and Doris Schlapia, of Benton, were united in marriage May 9, at Grant City, MO. Elmer Vanderpluym and Darlene Turnbull accompanied them.

TINGLEY - Mr. and Mrs. Keith Wood are the proud parents of a baby girl, born Saturday morning.
