Dr. Homer L. CALKIN, president of the Ringgold County Historical Society, has accepted a position as history instructor in the La Grange, Ill. High School and junior college, which duties he will assume next Monday.

Transactions were completed this week and papers were signed granting Lloyd DENHART a lease to the Skelly service station on the south side of the square and formerly operated by Claude MOORE. Mr. MOORE will maintain the tank wagon service for the Skelly Oil Station.

Announcement was made this week of the secret marriage of Norma SEARLES to Howard SMITH. The wedding took place Sept. 20, at Princeton, Mo., with the Rev. David FIELDS, pastor of the Princeton Methodist Church, performing the ceremony. Their only attendendant was Naomi SEARLES, sister of the bride. Mrs. SMITH is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. R. SEARLES, of Blockton, and Mr. SMITH is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert SMITH, of Mount Ayr. He began training with the navy on Sept. 24.

LaViece MAIN, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Corwin MAIN, of Mount Ayr, and Clarence BARKER, son of H. M. BARKER, of Benton, were united in marriage Nov. 3, at the Methodist parsonage in Maryville, Mo. The Rev. Wm. H. HACKMAN, pastor of the First Methodist Church, performed the ceremony. The couple is at home in Mount Ayr, where he is a member of the firm of Barker & Cross.

Mr. and Mrs. Clair DAVIS are the parents of a daughter, Nancy Ann, born Nov. 10, in the Decatur County Hospital in Leon. Weight, eight and three-fourths pounds.


STUDENT AYR - Bob SPENCE and Ruth WHEELOCK received superior ratings in the oral reading contest last week, sponsored by the Ayrgueres Club. Other contestants were Jean PRENTIS, Bob WILSON and Ruth EURITT, who received excellant ratings. . . The DramAyr Club will present "Dress Rehersal," on Nov. 13, and members of the cast are Bob MALEY, Bob WILSON, Andy BRYANT, Neil THOMAS, Bob ALLEN, Bill RUSK, Wayne WALTERS, Doyle DENHART and Ivan DENNIS.
