Tingley Fire Department was called to a house fire northeast of Tingley Friday, Feb. 6, at 4;45 p.m. that destroyed the
home of Harold and Eloise BROWN. The BROWNS were home at the time of the fire. According to the Tingley fire chief
Doug CAMPBELL, the fire originated near the fireplace/chimney area.
Kevin TRULLINGER set a milestone in his wrestling by winning his 100th career match as part of the Pride of Iowa conference
wrestling tournament Saturday. TRULLINGER brought home the title at 215 pounds.
Two awards were received in the Iowa Newspaper Association Better Newspaper Contest when results were announced at athe
state convention. H. Alan SMITH, Mount Ayr Record-News publisher, received third place in the master columnist award for
weeklies in Class 2. The Record-News also received a third place finish in the agricultural adverstising contest for
weeklies in Class 2.
Eric BROWN was appointed to the MAC school board to replace Mike McGHEE, who resigned after 11 years on the board because he
has moved from the county to a new position with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
