The Mount Ayr Community Raiderettes qualified four girls for the state girls track meet in district competition at Greenfield.
The team of Lori KNAPP, Amy SOUTH, Kelly HOWIE and Lisa KLEJCH won the shuttle relay at the time of 1:09.7 to qualify for the
state meet in Des Moines May 18-19.
Two Minnestoa truck drivers learned of the problems of southern Iowa mud roads the hard way last week when their two big semis
tried to made a delivery from Lester Corp. to a place near the Lynn RINEHART place south of Mount Ayr. The first of the pair
headed up a mud road and promptly slid into the ditch at the side. The second followed and quickly stuck, but Gerald
WALTER, living nearby, was able to pull it back far enough to get on a surfaced road. The big job in the ditch couldn't
be moved, even when a big four-wheeler was hooked on. Finally they induced Vernon McGAHUEY to put his big cat on and it
was soon back in business.
