Dr. Tim Swinton and family, formerly of Mount Ayr, were evacuated from Sierra Leone after a military coup overthrew the government.

Nathan Smith, a Mount Ayr Community High School junior, won the Iowa State Citizen Bee competiton for the second straight year in a contest held in Johnston Saturday.

Todd Derscheid, a Mount Ayr Community high school junior, received honorable mention in the extemporaneous speaking I contest at the National Business Professionals of Amercia conference in Cincinnati, OH over the weekend.

Five new trees were planted on the Mount Ayr Community High School grounds by MACHS FFA chapter members as part of the Trees Forever project in Mount Ayr last week.
