Ringgold county's extension service office, like 109 other sites across the state, may soon be part of a statewide
satellite telecommunications network linking Iowa State University and all counties in the state. Money from Iowa's
$274 million "windfall" from Exxon oil overcharge funds will help the service establish the network.
Mount Ayr Community homecoming king candidates are Cory BICKERS, Vic LILIENTHAL, Steve FELL, Max TRIGGS and Brent WURSTER.
Queen candidates are Shelly TAYLOR, Karla KINTON, Angie SMITH, Kim WILLIS and LeAnne O'MAILIA.
A party held Monday afternoon, Sept. 22, at the Shamrock Cafe honored three persons and was planned by employees and
former employees of the Shamrock. It was a farewell party for Mary WARIN and Rita SHAY, who have moved to Atlantic.
It was also a retirement party for a long-time employee -- Hazel SCHLAPIA of Diagonal.
An early morning electrical fire at the Darrell ADAMS farm burned a hog confinement house and 34 sows and approximately 288
little pigs were lost. Several big bales of hay also were destroyed but firemen were able to save other hay on the north
side of the confinement house. Several sows who had not yet had pigs were among the swine lost.
Attorney David NEAS of Mount Ayr has announced he is withdrawing from the practice of law effective October 1 and has sold
the physical assets of his practice to the law firm of Camp, Harsh, Boysen, James & Mackaman of Creston. The new law firm
here will occupy the office in the building where the Warin & Neas firm operated -- 105 E. Madison Street. Jim PEDERSEN, a
Mount Ayr native and resident, will be the new attorney staffing the office on a full-time basis.
