A group of almost 70 farmers from four states participated in a meeting in the Ringgold count courthouse Monday night talking
about ways that farmers facing foreclosure may be helped.
Winner of the Ringgold County Soil Conservation District essay contest for 1982 is Beth Still, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Eldon STILL of Kellerton. Second place was taken by Andy SCHRODT of Kellerton and third place was awarded to Dawn
LUMBARD of Diagonal. Judges for the contest were Warren ANGUS and Marcia MOHR. Prizes were presented by Ralph LONG,
Chairman of the education committee.
The Benton Community Improvement Club of Benton is one of 14 rural organizataions in six states that will receive
a cash grant from the Heinold Rural Awards Program in 1982. The $1,500 grant will be used to help the club build
restrooms and playground facilities at the site of a donated community building.
Bernard HANSON is one of the new Green Valley Area Education Agency employees serving students in Ringgold County.
HANSON, a school psychologist, will be working with students of Mount Ayr Community, Diagonal Community and Grand
Valley Community school districts, along with the students at the Afton group home for boys. He is
concerned with the emotional, social, intellectual and learning style needs of the young people in the area.
Central College junior Susan EASON, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James EASON of Mount Ayr, was elected to serve
as a member of the student senate at Central for 1982-83.
There was $2,212 taken in at the mount Ayr United Methodist Men's God's Portion Sale held Monday night, Nov. 1, at the
Mount Ayr Livestock Market facility before a minimal amount of expenses were paid, according to Bill RUSK, chairman
of the event.
