For the first time in over 20 years the Mount Ayr Community Raiders went unbeaten in regular season play and took
an 8-0 record into Wednesday night's first round state playoff battle with Manning. The Raiders rejoiced in a 30-8 win over
Bedford.
Tingley and Blockton are the two towns in the Mount Ayr Record-News area that have received community betterment
awards during the 14th annual recognition day of the Iowa Community Betterment program held last Saturday in Ames.
Vanette HUNT, 17, daughter of Frank and Lois HUNT of Diagonal, has earned the 1984 Iowa conservation award and will
receive a trip to [the] National 4-H Congress in Chicago, IL from November 24-29. A senior at Diagonal high school, Vanette
participates in basketball, softball, track, French Club, FSC, band and chorus. She also in involved with the Diagonal
Youth Fellowship and Iowa Community Betterment and is a junior member of the American Simmental Association. Deere
and Company, Moline, IL, will sponsor her trip to Chicago.
Russell ABARR is employed at New Energy of South Bend, IN, which is the world's largest ethanol plant and has recently
gone into production. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Barton ABARR of Redding.
There will be three Ringgold county 4-H exhibitors and one family exhibiting in open class during the American Royal
in progress in Kansas City. Debbie FARIS will show a steer and a heifer; Craig WILLIS, a steer and Amy JACKSON, a
steer. The Jim McCREARY family will be showing in open class. All are from Mount Ayr.
Two counts of burglary are pending in Ringgold county against Kevin BRAMMER and Timothy FETCHER, both 21 and of Creston.
The two men presently are in Union county charged with possession of a controlled substance. The burglaries in
Ringgold county, to which the men may be linked, authorities said, were early morning thefts October 26 at
Harvey Brothers Motors and Mount Ayr Mill and Feed.
Red Carpet Inn in Mount Ayr changes ownership this week, Eldon and Retha DILLENBURG have announced. The DILLENBURGS, who
owned the restaurant for the past two years, have announced that John and Vera BYROM will take over ownership effective
today (Nov. 1). BYROM, a native of Grant City, MO, has been the manager of the Pizza Hut in Trenton, MO, until
purchasing the restaurant here in Mount Ayr.
