Lori WOOD, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy WOOD of Kellerton, was crowned Ringgold County Beef Queen at the contest
sponsored by the Ringgold County CowBelles at the courthouse Monday night. Lori competed with five contestants for the
title, with Mari HUGHES, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arlen HUGHES, named runner-up.
Students in the three first grades and one second grade who attend classes in the fairgrounds buildings will be the first
to move into the new Mount Ayr Community elementary school building, according to a moving schedule approved at a
special meeting of the Mount Ayr Community school board of education April 22. If all the general contractor's work is
completed on the inside of the building by Friday, the students will move into the building that day.
A recent test of water supplies at the Tingley elementary center of the Mount Ayr Community school has found more than the
maximum contaminant level of coliform bacteria. That's the word from the Iowa Department of Environmental Quality. Schools
are required by law to give public notice of the finding of unsafe bacterial report. The school water supply at Tingley
comes from a well. The Tingley center is expected to be closed within the month as students there are transferred to the
new elementary building at Mount Ayr.
About 40 persons attended the annual induction ceremonies of parnassus chapter of National Honor Society Monday evening
at Mount Ayr Community high school. Students joining the society include seniors Debbie DULANY, Greg EDWARDS and Kevin
TRIGGS, and juniors, Cynde HICKMAN, Valerie KLEJCH and Mitch ARNOLD. Membership in the society is based on scholarship,
leadership, service and character.
Duane GLICK, Mount Ayr city clerk, reminds all dog owners to please keep their dogs penned or tied up, in compliance with a
city ordinance. With the advent of gardening season this is particularly.
