William John Ide, known as "Bill", passed away peacefully on February 14, 2025, in University Place, Wash. He was born on October 15, 1929, in Sioux City, Iowa, to John and Esther (née Mathers) Ide.
Bill graduated from Trinity High School in 1947, where he was selected as Captain of the All-City Basketball Team. Following high school, he joined the U.S. Army and served at General MacArthur's Headquarters in Japan before being stationed in Korea from 1950 to 1951. After his military service, he attended Morningside College, earning a teaching degree while playing basketball.
In 1954, Bill married Anita R. Cole, and they initially settled in Knoxville, Iowa, where he taught high school. In 1959, they moved to University Place, Wash., where Bill began a successful career in the nursing home industry. Over the years, he owned and operated several nursing care facilities across Washington. One of his most significant accomplishments was building a large facility in Tacoma dedicated to and named after his mother, Esther Rose. He retired in 1980.
Bill was predeceased by his wife, Anita; his sister, Patricia Martonik; and his brothers, Raymond Ide and James Ide. He is survived by his five children: Linda Ide, Gina Marble (David), William Ide Jr. known as "Sam", Lisa Hanson (Gary) and Monica Hirano. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren. Kyle, Jacob, Nathan, and Nicholas Ide, Jessica and Hayley and Matthew Hanson; as well as two great-grandchildren, Noah and Journey.
Bill's legacy of dedication to family and service will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
