Jody Eugene Schafer, 48, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, formerly of Onawa, Iowa, passed away Thursday, February 29, 2024, at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center, Sioux City, Iowa.
A private graveside service was held at the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa. A celebration of life will be 12:00 P.M. (Noon) Friday, March 15, 2024, at the Kiwanis Shelter, Onawa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
Jody Schafer was born June 11, 1975, in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Joe and Doris (Clapper) Schafer. He attended Onawa Community School. Jody worked as a welder for several years.
He enjoyed working on bicycles and old cars. Jody collected hot wheels miniature cars and loved spending time outdoors. Family was very important to Jody, especially spending time with his grandkids.
Jody Schafer and Christina Newman were united in marriage on April 30, 2022, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Survivors include his wife, Christina Schafer of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; children, Chelsea (Nick Conyers) Johnson of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Zachary Johnson of Chamberland, South Dakota, Joseph, Dalston, and Brett; four step-sons, Sean Mundahl of Hartford, South Dakota, Elijah Mundahl of Hartford, South Dakota, Rylee Mundahl of Hartford, South Dakota, and Joshua Mundahl of Hartford, South Dakota; grandchildren, Aurora, Zayla, and Raiden; two sisters, Betty McCullock of Onawa, Iowa, and Teresa Stillman of Nebraska; two aunts, Georgia Martin of Onawa, Iowa, and Norma Wilder of Onawa, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Doris (Clapper) Schafer; paternal grandparents, Joseph and Kate Schafer; maternal grandparents, George and Josephine Clapper; aunt, Ruth Johnson; and two uncles, Jimmy Clapper, and George “Buck” Clapper, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jody’s memory may be made to the family.
