50th Anniversary of Smithland Couple on Christmas Day

Smithland, Iowa -- Special: Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Brown of Smithland will observe their 50th wedding anniversary here Christmas Day. An open house reception from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Methodist Church will mark the observance.

Mr. and Mrs. Brown are nearly lifelong residents of this area and have lived in Smithland since retirement from farming 27 years ago. Mr. Brown is 76 and Mrs. Brown, 70. They were married December 25, 1897, at the home of Mrs. Brown’s parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. George Hummel, near here.

Mr. and Mrs. Brown have eight children, of whom the following seven will be present for the anniversary observance; B.F. Brown, Jr., of Sloan; Ariel P. and Austin B, both of Hornick; George W. of Mapleton, Mrs. Paul D. Jones of Sioux City, Mrs. A.A. Martin of Mapleton and Mrs. M.W. Crary of Smithland with whom Mr. and Mrs. Brown make their home, a daughter, Mrs. W.C. Phelps of Paonia, Colo. will be unable to attend.
