Mr. and Mrs. Silas Gripman and daughter of Austin and Mrs. Della Miller of Waterloo, who were called here by the funeral of Geo.{?} Kirkland returned to their homes Monday.

OBITUARY.
Alexander Kirkland died last Thursday November 26th, at the home of his daughter Mrs. Silas Gripman, in Austin, Minn., after an illness of about six weeks. Mr. Kirkland was born in Erie county, Pennsylvania, Aug. 7, 1851. With his parents he came to Freeport, Iowa, in 1856. He was married to Sarah Kuhns in 1871 and in 1879 they moved to Wadena, Minn., where they made their home until Mrs. Kirkland’s death in 1882. For several years the deceased has resided in Minneapolis where he was employed in an automobile repair shop. Beside his daughter he is survived by one son, Roy C. Kirkland of Enderlin, N. D. and four sisters,--Mrs. W. A. Leach and Mrs. S. Warren of Freeport, Mrs. Ed. Miller of Waterloo, and Mrs. Milton Kniss of Ulen, Minn, who have the sympathy of many friends in their bereavement. The remains were brought to Decorah Friday for burial. Services were held at the home of Mr. Leach at Freeport at 1:30 o’clock, and at the church at 2 o’clock, Rev. G. S. Lackland officiating, and interment was made in the Freeport cemetery.

The funeral of Alex. Kirkland, who passed away at the home of his daughter Mrs. Silas Gripman at Austin, Minn., last Wednesday, was held here last Sunday, Rev. Lackland of Decorah officiating. Mr. Kirkland was for many years a resident of this place and will be kindly remembered by all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his loss one daughter, Mrs. Silas Gripman, of Austin, Minn., one son Roy Kirkland of North Dakota and four sisters, Mrs. S. Warn and Mrs. W. A. Leach of this place, Mrs. Milton Kniss of Ulen, Minn., and Mrs. Ed. Miller of Waterloo, besides numerous other relatives and friends. Those who were here from a distance to attend the funeral were Mrs. Ed. Miller of Austin, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Crane and Mrs. Geo. Strayer and son James of Decorah.
