John Peter Smith, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Christ Smith, passed away at his home on Saturday after a lingering illness due to pleurisy. About two years ago he was taken sick and the physicians advised him to go west. After remaining there for several months, without any relief, he returned home, bravely and patiently awaiting the inevitable. John Peter Smith was about twenty-three years of age. He leaves to mourn his loss his mother, six sisters and two brothers. The funeral services were held Monday at ten o’clock from the St. John’s church, with interment at the Catholic cemetery. Rev. Father Dragoun officiated. The entire community sympathize with the bereaved ones in their sorrow.

Transcriber’s Note: St. John’s Cemetery shows a Peter Schmitt who was born July 23, 1891 and died Oct. 23, 1914. His father was Christopher Smith. The age and the father’s name indicate this is the same person.
