Services for Elizabeth A. Biros, 89, who died Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at Thorne Care Center/ Wesley Towers in Hutchinson, KS, will be held 10 a.m., Monday, July 9 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1202 W. Iowa, Indianola with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Elizabeth was born August 25, 1922 in Hiteman, IA to Stephen and Mary Elizabeth (Haley) Crall. She graduated from St. Patrick's High School, Georgetown in 1941, Centerville Community College, Centerville in 1943 and Drake University, Des Moines in 1964. In 1946 she married George Biros, Jr. who preceded her in death in 2000. Elizabeth taught in Ottumwa before moving with her family to Indianola in 1959. Before retiring in 1988 she taught at Emerson Elementary and the Indianola Middle Schools. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, the Ladies Alter and Rosary Society, the Iowa Education Association and the National Education Association.
Survivors include three daughters, Joan Silver and husband Steve of Indianola, Mary Schmidt and husband Philip of Buhler, KS and Patricia Sanders and husband Brian of West Des Moines; six grandchildren, Lynn Biros-Seadorf, Scott (Carol) Mathews, Rob (Chris) Mathews, Chrissy Mathews, Amanda Sanders and Allison Sanders; four great-grandchildren, Casey and Kira Mathews and Rachael and Sean Mathews; and sister, Helen Flattery of Colfax.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Joseph; husband, George Biros, Jr.; three brothers, J. Francis, Theodore and James Crall; and two sisters, Margaret Crall and Veronica Coughlin.
Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday, July 8 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola, with a 7:30 p.m. Rosary. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Overton Funeral Home, 501 W. Ashland Ave., Indianola, IA 50125 for either St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church or the Indianola Public Library.
