Jesse and Lotta resided in Agency, Wapello County in 1860. The census taker spelled the surname Astarr instead of Starr. Judging from the death record Mary provided, Jesse's middle initial was the letter A. Apparently the census taker mistook the middle initial for the first letter of the surname. The following is from the 1860 Wapello County Census Page 867:

Jesse Astarr 33 born Indiana
Lotta J. 30 Indiana
Mary 10 Iowa
Rebecca E. 5 Iowa
Frank E. 2 Iowa

Jesse's occupation was listed as "Teamster".

It is interesting to note an F. E. Starr was married to a Rose Mynerva Ladd in Dallas County, Iowa 23 January 1890. In 1900 Frank E. Starr and his wife were farming in nearby Madison Township, Madison County, Iowa.
