Burnette Reese Pherigo
Born: August 8, 1902
Salt Creek Township, Davis County iowa
It has 2 problems
Birth certificate states his father is Amos E Barker Burnett’s last name is Pherigo.
Mother’s name is Cathern Caroline Barker.
Barker is her maiden name.
Burnett is 4 years illegitimate.
Amos E. Pherigo marries Catherine in 1906 ottumwa.
Here are the possible reasons for this as I see it what are your thoughts?
1. Two credible sources state his birthday was in 1902.
2. His birth records state his parents were Amos E. Barker and Catherine Barker.
3 Barker was his mother’s maiden name
4. There are three ways to reconcile Amos’s last name.A. The record keeper got confused and put down the last name in error.
B. The record keeper purposefully put the last name there to try to hide the illegitimacy.
C. The last name is correct.
a. There is a man named Amos E. Barker but he lived most of his life in Howard County iowa. Almost 200 miles north of where Burnett was born.
b he was married and had children by that wife.
5 the marriage date is wrongA.Not likely there is marriage announcements in the paper
6 She just got pregnant and did not get married until 4 years later.
I can not explain it any better.
7 Burnett was adopted.
8 Catherine was married before she married Amos.
