Pat,

Without a lot of research it would be impossible to pinpoint any one particular player.

Ottumwa had at least one professional baseball team from 1867 until the 1940s. In 1867, there were two original Ottumwa teams, the Appanoose and the Actives. Other names included the Harvards and the Coal Palace Nine (1890) - all of which are probably way before your father's time.
