Thanks, Mary, for the suggestion. I've written the Archivist @ the SF Historical Library several times. They have a record of the casualties insofar as they were able to document names. I've found nothing. Many people died in the fires following the earthquake, many were never identified.

Finding a death record for Mary J. Kearns in Wapello Co. rules out the possibility she was the sister my grandmother talked about. I need to find what happened to the Mary Elizabeth Adams in Jefferson Co., who was my grandmother's biological sister.
