I am looking for information on my great-uncle and his wife, Dale & Hattie McCracken. Dale would have been born circa 1885, probably in Polk or Jasper County, Iowa. Dale was the son of Chads McCracken (1856-1903) and Charlotte M. Schoonover (1861 – circa 1895) By the time my mother knew him he worked for the railroad and lived in Ottumwa. I believe that Dale died before 1952. His wife, my great-aunt Hattie was alive as recently as 1975. I did find a SSI record for a Harriet McCracken who was born in 1888 (the right neighborhood to be my Hattie, but I don’t know her birthdate) and died 3-23-1989 in Ottumwa. Although I obviously can’t state it as a fact, I believe this is my great-aunt. Dale & Hattie McCracken had two daughter Cleota (born circa 1911) and Gwendolyn. According to my late mother, one of the daughters married an unrelated McCracken. My mother also said that both of the daughters had “stayed in the area”… remember that from Oregon, Ottumwa, Des Moines and Kansas City are all “in the area”. I checked Yahoo’s white pages for “Cleota McCracken” and although I found no phone listing, I did click on a button to check other government documents, and it listed a “Cleota Sara McCracken” aged 91, living in Ottumwa.
Anyway, I seem to have made a short story long, but if anyone has any information on this family, I would be greatful to hear from you.Mac Cornelison
