1904 OTTUMWA COURIER HAS THIS OBIT
Hello all,
Thought I would get back to you with my findings. I signed up to NewspsperArchive.com for a week and plowed through all the 1904 Iowa
newspapers I could find (their search engine is broke right now). Found three articles in the 'Around Iowa' news sections and have posted them online for you to read:http://www.grouth.org/1904/index.html
Its very sad news, and I'm sorry to be sending it since I know these things have a way of spoiling our day. But, I wanted to keep you up to
date, we now know it was Montrose, Lee County, Iowa.Christian Lamle was probably more of a fruit grower than farmer and I suspect he was in some way involved with Montrose's strawberry industry.
They had raised their family in the south eastern parts of Iowa in the 1870s-1880s so my guess is he returned to this area in his old age. He
also read German newspapers, so he might have read ads about opportunities in Montrose. I will certainly be researching things
further in Lee County. However, my next objective is to try and find a published obituary and the final burial place. I know my grandfather, Frank Lamle, traveled to
Iowa for a few days and I know his sister Rosa Viola Snider lived just south of Brighton, Washington Co, Iowa at that time.So it looks like microfilm is the only option. Plus, I am not sure that the Courier's LEMIE obit is going to be my great-grandparents. If their children provided an obit I'm pretty sure they would have used LAMLE spelling.
Anyway, enough for now, I need to take a break from all this...
