There is no entry in the 1850 cemsus that seems to match your description. However, in the 1860 census for Soap Creek Township, Davis County, Iowa is the following entry.

P. Dawson, head, aged 50, born Ireland
Catherine Dawson, wife, aged 47, born Ireland
Francis Dawson, dau, aged 20, born Indiana
Roseanna Dawson, dau, aged 18, born Indiana
John Dawson, son, aged 16, born Iowa
Nancy Dawson, dau, aged 14, born Iowa
Edward Dawson, son, aged 12, born Iowa
Margaret Dawson, dau, aged 10, born Iowa
Catherine Dawson, dau, aged 8, born Iowa

Davis County borders Wapello County to the south and Soap Creek Township is in the northern part of Davis County.
