ABENCY - Paul L. Sommer, 68, died Thursday at 11:45 p.m. at Ottumwa Hospital.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m., at Calvary Baptist Church, Batavia, with the Rev. Donald Wright officiating. Burial will be in Brethren Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Mission Fund of Calvary Baptist Church. Arrangements are in charge of Campbell Funeral Chapel in Batavia.
The son of Peter and Mabel Standafer Sommer, he was born Feb. 12, 1909 in Hancock, Minn. He lived in Minnesota until moving to the Batavia community in 1940 where he was engaged in farming. He moved to the Agency community in 1967. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
He married Esther Allen on Oct. 12, 1934. She died Feb. 12, 1934. He was married to Alice Humble on Aug. 18, 1967. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Marlys Smith, Batavia and Loretta Park, Sioux Falls, S.D.; one son, Delbert Sommer, Heidelberg, Germany; six stepchildren, Marjorie Teninty, Batavia, Patricia Fligg, Batavia, Cheryl Bass, Eldon, Richard Humble, Fairbury, Neb., Larry Humble and Ellis Humble, both of Batavia.
He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and 15 step-grandchildren.
Other survivors are three sisters, Bertha Hollenberg of Sebring, Fla., Erma Paul, Frontenac, Minn., and Agnes Duncan, Grand Junction, Colo.
