Maymie Sophia Elmore Price 1870-1922

Maymie Sophia Elmore was born January 9, 1870, in Keokuk, Lee, Iowa to Joseph Howard Elmore and Sophia Anna McGlashen of Illinois and New York respectively. She was given her mother's first name for her middle name. She never knew her father, since her parents were divorced when she was just a baby and her father never kept in contact. She married David Nelson Price in 1889 in Eldon, and worked along side her husband in their Eldon store and cafe. Maymie and David had four children, Myrtle Anna Price (Hodson), Leta Elmore Price (Ahre), William David Price, and Margaret Beatrice Price (Wingfield). Maymie was a friendly, hospitable woman, and had a very close relationship with her chilren and grandchildren. She enjoyed poetry and music, and was able to pay for piano lessons for her daughters. She died of pneumonia at the age of 52, and is buried in the Eldon Cemetery. Her husband lived another 27 years in Eldon, but never remarried. See her obituary for additional history.
