Grace Marie Lanman, 86, formerly of the Vernon Prairie neighborhood, southwest of Bonaparte, died Tuesday, May 14, 1991 at University Hospitals in Iowa City.
She had been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua, Iowa since December 1989.
The daughter of Nelson and Carrie Hunter was born July 17, 1904, at their home in the community where she lived her life. She married Orville Edgar Lanman September 7, 1928 at the Little Brown Church near Nashua, in a double wedding ceremony with her sister, Ethell and Clarence DeLamater.
She was a graduate of Farmington High School and Parsons College in Fairfield. She did graduate work in religious educational at Chicago Training School and worked and taught in that field in Joliet, Ill., Des Moines, Ia., and York, Neb. for a total of six years. She returned to college and resumed her teaching career, first at rural Enterprise near Keosauqua and then at Van Buren Community where she taught 11 years before her retirement in 1970. She was active in the Bonaparte United Church, Van Buren County Retired Teachers, and Eastern Star.
Surviving are her husband, Orville of the Good Samaritan Center; two sons, John of Newberry, S.C., and Robert of Reston, VA., six grandchildren, seven step grandchildren, (eigh) great grandchildren, and a nephew are included in her extended family.
