William A. Rice

William A. Rice, 78, of Danville, died at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 1990, at University Hospitals, Iowa City.

Born July 12, 1911, at Spring Valley, Minn., he was the son of William and Julia Walsh Rice. He married Minnie Klagef Vickroy July 1, 1961, at Milton.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II and had served on the battleship Iowa. He was employed at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, retiring in 1973. He was a member of the Danville Masonic Lodge No. 48 A.F.&A.M., Order of Eastern Star Chapter 514 at Danville, the Machinists Union and the AARP.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Helen Schroeder of Mount Pleasant; one son, Jimmy Rice of Eldridge; one stepdaughter Mrs. Phyliss Thie of Mediapolis; five grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

Masonic rites will be held at 7:30 p.m. today followed by family visitation at the Elliott Chapel in New London.

The service for Mr. Rice will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Elliott Chapel in New London with the Rev. Gordon McMillan officiating. Burial will be in the Jaggar Cemetery at Danville.

A memorial has been established for the Danville Rescue Unit.
