A.J. Stevens, 80, of Stockport died August 24, 1990, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
He was born Oct. 28, 1908, in Frederick, Okla., to Adam Joel and Lina Witt Stevens. He married Inez McLellaon May 25, 1929, in Oklahoma City, Okla.
He was a farmer most of his life, served as custodian for the Oklahoma National Stockyards for 13 years and was a member of Dumas Avenue Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. He lived in Stockport for the past seven years.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Anna Joe Gibson of Beverly Hills, Calif.; a son, Gene C. Stevens of Rota, Spain; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; six sisters, Mary Shaw of Highland Park, Ill., Rosa Dobson of Frederick, Okla., Alma Wilmon of Oxnard, Calif., Nettie Jo Brittian of Elreno, Okla., and Letta Fay Mason of McAllen, Texas; and two brothers, Jack Stevens of Frederick, Okla., and Olen Stevens of Springdale, Ark.
Services were held Wednesday, August 29, 1990 at 2 p.m. at Burch-Raymond Funeral Home, Birmingham with Rev. Robert Butts officiating. Burial was in Spencer Cemetery.
