Thanks for the reply. I've looked at the stone and I can remember what its says. If it is just a typo that would clear things up. As I mentioned, I am related to the other Thomas' nearby. James Thomas was a Union soldier and listed on the Civil War Monument. William was his brother and William J was his son. I can't remember off the top of my head who else is there. You got to look at the cemetery book.... Is it still at the city clerk's office? I saw it several years ago, but it's been a while. Can you tell if Elizabeth Whitney is in the same plot as my other Thomas'?
For the record. Oct. 19, 1884.. Charles Luis Whitney 28 yo, Sioux County Farmer (son of Samuel and Lucrecia (Luis) Whitney), born in Wisconsin. Married Elizabeth A. Barridge, 29 born Kirkstath/Kirksted??, Yorkshire, England daughter of John Barridge and Anna Wise. First marriage for both. They were married at the home of George and Elizabeth Fletcher (Plymouth, County, Iowa) who also served as witnesses. On file at Plymouth County Clerk of Records. I took digital pics, they aren't real clear.
Elizabeth and Charles Whitney are listed in 1885 Sioux County Census. Charles is in the 1900, but I haven't found him after that.
