Carl, are you sure that the family of Jan Nicolay that was in Sioux county in the 1880s and 1890s was the family you are seeking?
In the 1885 census of Sioux county have this couple, recently married with no childen -
I have a Jan Nicolai 24, born in Holland to Sjverd Nicolai and Johanna Postma married to Elizabeth Buren Fokkema 23 years, her second marriage. She was born in Holland to Arjen Buren and Teitje Rietstma, they were married in Orange City on May 31, 1884 Sioux county Marriage records Book 1, page 25.

Then I find a John & Lena Nicolay family 1900 in
Muscatine IA. They immigrated 1884 She was Lena Nyenhuis. I don't see where they were in Sioux county IA.
Which family is the one that was in Sioux County of which the dau. Tena was born 1889?
