Mrs. Gaylene Eshuis, age 67, of Orange City, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Ava’s Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
A visitation with the family present will be held on Sunday, October 20, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. A prayer service will take place on Monday, October 21, at 10:00am, at the funeral home, followed by interment at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a memorial service on Monday, at 11:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Mark Haverdink officiating.
Gaylene Beth was born on October 25, 1956, in Orange City, the daughter of Peter and Esther (Van Gorp) Bos. She was raised on a farm near Maurice and graduated from the MOC High School in Orange City. She then earned her associates degree from Northwestern College in Orange City.
For many years, she worked for North West Rural Electric Cooperative in Orange City as a line dispatch clerk, where she met Cornelius “Cork” Eshuis. She and Cork were united in marriage on August 14, 2010, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City and together they made their home in Orange City. After Cork was diagnosed with cancer, Gaylene was his devoted care giver until his passing on December 15, 2023.
Gaylene was a member of the First Reformed Church in Orange City, where she was on the library board and attended Bible studies. She had recently become active with a group of other individuals that had lost their spouses and appreciated their companionship. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, baking her famous brownies and monster cookies, and laughing over the pranks she loved to pull on her family.
She will be lovingly missed by her two daughters, Emily, and her husband, Craig Posselt, of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin; and Heidi Poppens, of Lennox, South Dakota; two sons and their wives, Darren and Colleen Eshuis, of Polk City; and Jarret and Cindy Eshuis, of Sioux Center; thirteen grandchildren, Zoe Winters, Liam Winters, Trippten Poppens, Ariana Poppens, Rachel Eshuis, Greg (Maria) Eshuis, Jessica (Cainen) Vander Windt, Sarah Eshuis, Noah Eshuis, Levi Eshuis, Tate Van Regenmorter, Kaden Van Regenmorter, and Toby Van Regenmorter; two great-grandchildren; her mother, Esther Bos; a brother and his wife, Paul and Karen Bos; a sister-in-law and her husband, Joann and James Coy; Cork’s sister and her husband, Margene and Jim Kooima; his sister-in-law, Dorothy Eshius; and his brother-in-law, Jim Driesen; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her father and husband, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Bennett Vander Windt; and two brothers, Dennis Bos and Daniel Bos.
Memorials will be given to Ava’s Hospice House in Sioux Falls.
