Mrs. Margaret Fernow, age 80, of Orange City, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at her home in Orange City.

A visitation with the family present will be held on Friday, January 3, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the American Reformed Church in Orange City. There will be a funeral service on Saturday, January 4, at 11:00am, at the church with the Rev. Bryce Vander Stelt officiating. Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. The Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Jeanette was born on January 10, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Alexander and Freida (Johnston) Taylor. She was raised on the Taylor Family century farm east of Springville and attended the Viola Elementary School and graduated from the Springville High School in 1962. She furthered her education at a business school in Cedar Rapids before working for two local dentist offices.

On August 18, 1963, she was united in marriage to Allen C. Fernow in Springville. Together they made their home in Springville, where they started a family. In 1977, the couple moved to Orange City, and Margaret held various roles at K-Products, which later became American Identity, including being Executive Assistant to the President and Chief Operating Officer. After retiring, she helped part time at The Old Factory and Jubon Juweleen, both in Orange City.

Mrs. Fernow was a dedicated member of the American Reformed Church in Orange City, actively engaging in the church community. She coordinated events, taught Sunday school, served as a youth group sponsor, and participated in the women’s group. Margaret enjoyed collecting beautiful household items, cultivating her flower gardens, and traveling with Allen to visit family and explore new places.

Survivors include her husband of more than 61 years, Allen, of Orange City; four children, James Fernow, and his wife, Karlene, of Stafford, Virginia; Jane, and her husband, David Sallee, of Marion; Mary Fernow of Orange City; and Mark Fernow-Glasco, and his husband, Keith, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; five grandchildren; Ashley, and her husband, Kyle Lieske, of Alberta, Canada; Allen Fernow, and his wife, Christina, of Milford, Massachusetts; Taylor Fernow, of Midlothian, Virginia; Zachary Fernow, of Stafford, Virginia; and Spencer Sallee, of Cedar Rapids; two great-grandchildren, Lawson and Jayton Lieske; a sister-in-law, Sally Taylor; three nephews; and two nieces.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Alex Taylor and Jim Taylor; Allen’s parents, Harold and Helen Fernow; and Allen's brother, Dale Fernow, who passed away in childhood.

Memorials will be given to the Orange City Area Home Health and Hospice and the American Reformed Church.
