Employment: After his time in the military, Lowell farmed in the Audubon area and owned the Holiday Bar and Restaurant in Audubon, IA. Later, he launched a tree service specializing in stump removal, often contracting in Sioux City, IA. With wife Kay, they shared a passion for beekeeping, which became a successful business, Midwest Iowa Honey. Lowell was known for his tireless work ethic, remaining active until age 80, ending his work career as a dishwasher at Wing’s Truck Stop, Avoca, IA
Hobbies/Interests: In his early years, Lowell was a dirt track race car driver, competing at Shelby County Speedway during the 1960s and 1970s. In the 1970s and 1980s, he moved indoors and immersed himself in pool tournaments, playing in local leagues and competing in Omaha, NE. He was a talented woodworker and crafted cherished wooden horses for his grandchildren; with Kay, they enjoyed traveling and also frequented music shows in Branson, MO. In his later years, Lowell was a familiar face around Harlan, enjoying the community’s camaraderie.
