Obituary -- Alanson Maggard.

Alanson Enoch Maggard, son of John and Sarah Maggard, was born January 10, 1870, and departed this life after two years of sickness and suffering on January 17, 1943, at the age of 73 years and seven days. The earlier years of his life were spent in and around Cumberland, near Atlantic and Nevinville, near Creston, Iowa.

On May 28, 1896, he was united in marriage to Nellie B Bear and established their home northwest of Kellerton, Iowa. To this union six children were born. He was preceded in death by one son, Norval. He is survived by his devoted wife and five sons and daughters, Mrs. Truman Baker and Loren Maggard of Kellerton, Clifford of Wichita, Kan., Mrs. Roy Millard of Creston, and Roy at home. He also leaves to mourn his passing two brothers, Jim Maggard of Mount Ayr, and Atis Maggard of Selma, Calif., and one sister, Mrs. Lydia Pease of Trenton, Mo.; also six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, besides a host of relatives and friends.

In February, 1914, he united with the Methodist Church at High Point and led a Christian life until the end. The number of days of his sojourn here were greatly increased by the undying care and devotion of his wife and son at home. In the passing of Alanson the community loses one its best neighbors and truest friends. He was always outstanding in his support of that which was right and best for the community. We that Mr. Maggard is asleep with Jesus.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon, January 19, at the Methodist Church in Kellerton, by the Rev. Z. M. Bressler. Music was furnished by a mixed quartet composed of Mrs. Frank Seasholtz, Mrs. Jim Richards, W. W. Farmer and B. W. Whitson, accompanied by Mrs. Glen Robinson at the piano. They sang "Going Down the Valley," "The Old Rugged Cross" and "in the Garden." Pallbearers were Orr Allen, Len Sherman, Howard Taggart, Albert Martin, Art DeVries and Forest Morgan. Interment was made in the Kellerton Cemetery.
