Thursday, January 9, 1919BLOCKTON NEWS ~ Elmer Cortner Dead
[Lawrence] Elmer [Benson] CORTNER, a farmer 50 years of age and residing on a farm southeast of town, took his own life early Monday morning. Mr. CORTNER had been in poor health for a number of years. The condition of his health at times during the past two years had been very critical, necessitating trips to a hospital where he submitted to severe surgical operations. The condition of his health, his nervous temperament and his inclination to worry in the end destroyed his reason, hence his rash act.
He leaves a wife [Susan Frances "Susie" (ARGO)] and seven children - five boys and two girls.
The funeral services were held from the home Tuesday afternoon at 2 oÕclock, conducted by Rev. G. C. FLANNERY, pastor of the Christian church, and interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery [Blockton].
