Helen G. Barmish, 106, of Des Moines died Friday, October 11, 2013, at the Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today, Sunday, October 13 at Iles Dunn's Chapel. Burial will follow at Jewish Glendale Cemetery.

Helen was born May 6, 1907 in Hartford, CT to Louis D. and Ida (Levitt) Ginsburg. She moved to Des Moines in 1912 and was a graduate of North High School. Following her marriage to Jay J. Barmish she worked with him at their company, Jay Barmish Loan, until 1971. After her retirement from the loan company she worked at Kneeter Furs.

Helen was a member of Tifereth Isarel Synagogue and Hadassah and supported ORT. She belonged to the Des Moines Womens Club, volunteered at Mercy Medical Center and served as Treasurer of the Variety Club Auxiliary for over twenty five years.

Those left to cherish Helen's memory include her two sons, Louis D. Barmish of Des Moines and Steven R. (Louise) Barmish of Urbandale; four grandchildren, Scott R. Barmish of Frankfurt, KY, Wendy L. (Steve) Glasser of Washington, DC., and Jeb (Melissa) Barmish of Austin, TX; and four great grandchildren, Ellie Barmish, Miles Barmish, Tyler Brand and Josh Brand. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay J. Barmish in 1990; her parents; and five siblings, Harold Ginsburg, Birdie Robinson, Edward Ginsburg and Beverly Meyers.
