Gary Sims, 58, died suddenly at his home Friday, October 18, 2013. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Dunn's Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Gary was born September 3, 1955 in Mount Pleasant, Iowa to Lowell and Arlene (Ellis) Sims. He graduated from Ottumwa High School and went to work for the Burlington Northern Railroad. After 25 years as a locomotive engineer Gary retired and worked as an independent painting contractor in the Des Moines area. He had a heart of gold and enjoyed hunting, fishing and being with friends and family. He liked watching football with his sons, and being creative in the kitchen (although the food he prepared was not always edible).

Survivors include his wife, Becky; sons: Nick and Zach Sims of West Des Moines; parents, Lowell and Arlene Sims of Russell, IA; sister, Diana (Jim) Willits of Windsor Heights; nieces: Courtney and Ashley Willits of Windsor Heights. Gary was preceded in death by his son, Ryan in 2008.
