Edwin E. (Ed) Jones, 94, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2013. Ed was born on July 9, 1919, in Colfax, Iowa, to Samuel and Sadie Jones.

Ed graduated from Colfax High School in 1937, and then attended Wayne State Teachers College in Nebraska. His education was cut short when he joined the United States Army. He served his country for 4 ½ years, stationed in the United States and Europe. Ed was very proud to be a longstanding member of Legion Post 175, based in Colfax, Iowa. In April 2012, Ed, accompanied by his son, Tom, joined other World War II Veterans in an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

Ed and his wife Mary Jane (Jane) Main met when they were teenagers. They married on June 13, 1943, at the First United Methodist Church in Colfax and recently celebrated their seventieth anniversary. Together, they owned and operated Jones Produce and Hatchery in Colfax, Iowa. In 1964 Ed and Jane moved to Ankeny to operate Jones Dairy Sweet Diner. After selling the Dairy Sweet Diner in 1973, Ed sold real estate for Lundstrom Realty. In 1982 Ed retired as a housing inspector for the City of Des Moines.

After retirement, Ed and Jane moved from Ankeny to Apache Junction, Arizona, and later to Las Vegas, Nevada. In 2011 they returned to Ankeny. During retirement, Ed and Jane enjoyed extensive traveling in both the United States and abroad. Ed's greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.

Ed is survived by his wife Jane, his children Cindy (Ron) Wagner, Sue (Marvin) Busta, and Tom (Karen) Jones, 8 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Ed's life will be held at a later date. The family would like to offer a sincere thank you to the staff at Mill-Pond Retirement Community for the loving care they provided Ed. In lieu of flowers, memorials made be made to the Colfax Historial Society or the Central Iowa Honor Flight. Condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com
