Burrell Oliver Jr, 89, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2024, at Mercy Hospital. Burrell was born on November 17, 1935, in Des Moines to Burrell Sr and Evelyn Oliver. Burrell graduated from East High School in 1953. He honorably served in the Army Reserves in the late 1950s. Burrell worked at Farm Bureau for more than 30 years. He then worked at the Iowa Hospital Association and delivered parts for Napa and CarQuest Auto Parts. Burrell loved talking all things cars, he treasured his 57 Chevy convertible and 65 Impala SS.
Burrell married the love of his life, Mary, on April 16th, 1961. Burrell and Mary were blessed with two children: daughter Janine and son David. Burrell was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather to his four grandchildren. Burrell and Mary shared a beautiful life together attending church every Sunday, spending time with friends, and traveling the world. They visited places such as Yellowstone, Mexico, New Orleans, Hawaii, St. Croix, and more. He especially enjoyed vacationing in Florida in 2011 to watch his grandchildren experience the ocean for the first time. After retirement, Burrell and Mary cherished winters spent in Galveston, Texas and Lake Havasu, Arizona with family.
Burrell is survived by wife Mary Oliver; daughter Janine (Tim) Tingwald; son David (Tammy) Oliver; grandchildren Wyatt “Elleven” Oliver, Carson Tingwald, Alaina (Caleb) Tingwald, and Kara (Dustin) Oliver; sisters Nancy (Bob) Pentico, Kristy (Jon) Steele; brother Steven Oliver; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Burrell was preceded in death by his parents, Burrell Oliver Sr and Evelyn Oliver, sister-in-law Paula Oliver, and brother-in-law Don Meyer. He will be deeply missed by all who know him and in loving memory contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
Visitation will be 4-6 p.m., Friday, December 27th at Iles Norwalk Chapel. A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 28th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Des Moines. A private burial service will be at a later date.
