Page 1(Muscatine Co.) While employed cutting wood in a timber near West Liberty on Monday morning, Herman Schneider, aged 48 years, was crushed to death by a falling tree. He was pinned beneath the tree and the weight was not removed until fellow workmen could saw the tree again. He was at once taken to an adjoining farm, where he expired shortly afterward. The man had been employed for the International Match company of Joliet, Ill., which company has been cutting timber near West Liberty the greater part of the winter. His father, he said , lived near Buffalo, N. Y., but he left nothing that would serve to locate any of his relatives. The remains were sent to Iowa City, where they will be turned over to the medical department of the state university.
