Funeral services for Herbert H. Gatzke, 69, were held at West Liberty Nov. 7 with the Rev. Jacke Tjarks, pastor of Zion Lutheran church, Atalissa, officiating. Pallbearers were Bill McKillip, Bill Rock, Buck Hilton, Howard Williams, Melvin Hepker and Bob Werling. Honorary bearers were Ray Hazen, Lyle McKillip, Forrest Ridenour and Cecil Carlisle. Les VerHelst was organist. Burial was in Oak Ridge cemetery, West Liberty. A memorial fund has been established.

The son of Fred and Margaret Klinert Gatzke, he was born at Atalissa April 3, 1919 and was married to Betty DeVore in Iowa City Feb. 5, 1946. He was a carpenter and a World War II navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife; 3 sons, Don, Richard and Ron, Atalissa; 3 grandchildren, 2 stepgrandchildren and a stepgreat grandchild.
