Verna Machlan, 69, West Liberty, died Feb. 19 at her home following an extended illness. Her body has been donated to the University of Iowa. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 28, 1987 at the First Christian church in Muscatine, with the Rev. William Keller officiating.

The daughter of Frank and Ethel Hein, she was born May 15, 1917 in Muscatine. She married Clarence George "Bud" Machlan Sr. May 15, 1937 in Muscatine. She lived in her rural West Liberty home for the past 3 years.

She was a member of the First Christian church and had worked with the Cub Scouts, the Retarded Children's Association of Muscatine and the Muscatine County Workshop.

Mrs. Machlan is survived by her husband; a son, Clarence George "Butch" Machlan, Jr., Normal, Ill.; 2 daughters, Joyce Schmidt, West Liberty and Judy Machlan, at home; 5 grandchildren and 5 brothers and sisters.
