09/14/2003UNDERWOOD - Charles J. Bergantzel, 62, of Underwood died of cancer Sept. 12 at his home.
He was born Sept. 27, 1940, in Montgomery County, Mo., to Joseph and Rieka (Fischer) Bergantzel and later lived in Council Bluffs and Wolbach, Neb. He had lived in Underwood for 22 years. He served in the U.S. Navy and worked as a self-employed carpenter and out of Carpenters Local No. 444 Union Hall.
He was of the Lutheran faith.
Mr. Bergantzel was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Cody.
He and his wife, Peggy (McHugh), had been married for 27 years.
Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters, Chris Bergantzel and Kandi Snipes and husband, Scott, all of Council Bluffs; three sons, William of San Diego, Calif., Casey of Council Bluffs and David of Underwood; four sisters, Mary Price and husband, Harold, of Magnolia, Bonnie Collins and husband, Russell, of Elk Horn, Ella Nixon and husband, Roger, of Crescent and Connie Wildrick and husband, Butch, of Council Bluffs; a brother, Johnny and wife, Carol, of Council Bluffs; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The body has cremated.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home.
Memorials may be offered to the family.
