My husband is John Conkel (1950- )he is son of Jack Conkel and Patricia (Murbarger) grandson of Clyde Conkel (twin to Lorraine "Lola") born Dec. 7 1892 husband of Stella ? and in 1949 Blanche (Damewood?)
I have been going in circles searching for the "elusive" ggrandfather John Conkel (b. 4.19.1868 d. 7.7.44)buried in Montgomery Cty. IA, Sheriff of Red Oak, Iowa possibly in the 30's married to the lovely Mary E. Faust in March 1892. It has been relayed to me that ggrfather John, fought for the Union in the Civil War, F Company out of PA likely where he took Mary for his bride. I don't know if the way to achieve results in a search for my ancestry is to have to pay tremendous fees to search public records (I'm having the SAME non productive search for my own grandfather!) or, if one must know and have the information to place in various databases to enable others to search in the first place but I need some help. Has anyone any information with regard to the aforementioned Conkel family members? I keep hearing about "the Sheriff of Red Oak" and I'm beginning to think I'm married to Batman's sidekick, Robin ;) Help! Please.Write to me at hishandler@lvcm.com (dated: 4.12.2003) Thank You
