MONTEZUMA – The Rev. Perry O Silvara, 87, a retired Baptist minister who had been a pastor of churches for 50 years, died Thursday Halsey Hall, the Kansas Soldiers Home hospital. He had lived at Montezuma, with a daughter, in recent years.
Mr Silvara was born November 26, 1883, in Greeley Co NE, and grew up in Lucas Co IA. He and Miss Leona Watt were married September 1, 1906, at Villisca, IA. He attended Central Seminary in Kansas City and then attended Southwestern Central Seminary in Kansas City, and then attended Southwestern Theological Seminary at Forth Worth TX.
Besides serving various churches for 50 years Mr Silvara also was secretary of the NE Baptist Convention for three years. Mrs Sylvara’s death was August 28, 1953.
Mr Silvara was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church of Webb City MO.
Survivors include three sons, Melvin of Orville, CA; Raymond of Uniontown and Lowell of Independence, MO: two daughters, Mrs Jim (Harriet) Housman of Wichita and Mrs Farrell (Marguerite) Birkes, of Montezuma; a sister, Miss Golda of Chariton, IA: three brothers, Roy and Richard of Chariton, IA, and John of Yuma, AZ: 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The funeral service has been scheduled for 10 am, Monday at Villisca. IA, with burial there. The Hulpieu-Swaim Funeral Home of Dodge City will be in charge of local arrangements.
